about

There was a month where we gathered for a handful of evenings to create music. Some of this music we played and some we caused to be generated. For the largest part, this music was improvised, including manipulating the generators and synth sounds in real time. We chose a few of these improvisations that we liked and, when the song demanded it, added one or two simple parts to the original performance. We were intent on not editing in the Computer, but a few times we were powerless to its crafty charms. We limited ourselves to only the most basic effects available. All-in-all, we tried to keep from Kitchen Sinking the entirety of this whole deal.

What you will listen to here are five pieces of improvisational synthesizer-based music. Please don't be afraid that they are strange or boring, as we strongly believe we have chosen to share with you only the most compelling and beautiful pieces.

The tools used to create these improvisations:
Our very hands
a Sequential Circuits Prophet-600 with many knobs
a Korg Arp Odyssey with many sliders
a toothless Korg Poly-61
an application known to us as Fugue Machine
a small and dapper Korg SQ-1
the world's most ravishing Optigan
A rock and roll electric guitar with tube amplifier
an Aria acoustic guitar previously owned by a grandfather
a robust little application called Patterning
a nattily painted and stickered Roland Ep-70
